Faster than
Ever - The Installation of SuSE Linux 8.1
A Linux newcomer should be able to install the new SuSE Linux 8.1 on their
PC within a very short time. Depending on the range of package selected
for installation, you will have a fully configured Linux system in about
30 minutes. Even if you take some time to read the screen prompts
displayed periodically during the various installation stages, you will
rarely need much more time for the installation.
Experienced users will be able to configure their system within less than
30 minutes. This includes the setup of users and the selection of a
suitable screen resolution as well as the configuration of the Internet
access, e-mail, printers, sound, and CD writer.

As Easy and Fast as Can Be
Following the initial system check, a "suggestion
screen" will be displayed. If you accept the suggestions,
your hard disk will be partitioned automatically, and an existing
FAT32 can be reduced in size. Of course you can also define your
own partitioning settings and software selection. Upon
confirmation of the selection, the installation will start and
the hardware will be detected automatically.

Easy Modification of Suggestions
If you are not satisfied with the suggestions of the system
assistant YaST2 or have special requirements for your system, you
can modify the installation settings manually. For example, you
can easily reduce the size of a FAT32 partition with the
"Resizer" by simply adjusting the sizes of the
partitions with a slider.

YaST - The Configuration and Administration Tool
Our revised configuration tool YaST2 assists you in setting up
your entire system in a comfortable way. YaST2 is a tool for all
system tasks, including the installation of software and
hardware, the user administration, the configuration of the
Internet access, and the setup of the network. The System Profile
Manager is a new component that enables you to load diverse
system profiles with different network or printer settings.
Furthermore, a new Backup and Restore module and a new Joystick
module were added.
