Freedom Prevails
"Open Source", i.e. software whose code is freely accessible,
increasingly gains importance. Meanwhile, security and cost
considerations have moved many public administrations to deploy Linux.
The German parliament will shortly migrate its entire server structure
to SuSE Linux, and the City of Munich and various State Departments
plan to migrate to Linux. Market experts confirm that today one out of
every four servers runs with Linux. The reason: companies that install
Linux achieve a substantial decrease of the overall IT costs and an
optimization of the IT security due to the Open Source policy and the
absence of license fees.

Open Source = Freedom + Security
"Open Source" implies that the program code is
available to all. This in turn means that thousands of developers
work on the further development of Linux. When an error is
detected, troubleshooting is not merely the task of a small group
of programmers; rather, the world's best specialists for the
respective program handle the error elimination themselves. This
is not only extremely efficient, it is also fast. SuSE Linux AG
hosts the world's largest programming team, thus making a
substantial contribution to the development of Linux.

Everything Is Permitted?
Compulsory registration? - This well-known buzzword of other
operating system manufacturers does not appear in the Linux
vocabulary. Linux and all its applications are not only freely
available, they are also free of charge and can be installed on
an unlimited number of systems. Therefore, if one of your friends
is interested in Linux and its applications, you are allowed to
"lend" your Linux. Everybody can install and use it -
it is totally legal!
Nevertheless, Open Source does not imply the absence of a license
and copyright: YaST
license.

Everything Free of Charge?!
The operating system itself and all programs are free of
charge and can be downloaded from the Internet! The fee
charged for SuSE Linux is a compensation for the task of
combining more than 2300 individual packages into a uniform
system, the additional service we offer in the form of
installation support, the online provision of patches and
security fixes via YOU, and of course the documentation provided
in the form of easy-to-understand printed manuals.
In a recent test of various Linux editions, IT magazine
"c't" rated the excellent manuals of SuSE Linux as
"by far the best documentation".
All in all, SuSE Linux 8.1 is a reliable, inexpensive operating
system with a wide range of utilization possibilities.
